StoFloor Industry KU 601 for Baggage Conveyor Hall at New Terminal 3 Frankfurt Airport
Frankfurt Airport is Germany's largest commercial airport. The third terminal in the south of the airport will have the capacity for 19 million travellers a year after its finalisation and can be expanded up to 25 million travellers if necessary. Such a high volume of travel also means an enormous amount of luggage, which is why the baggage conveyor system in Terminal 3 has an area of around 16,000 square metres.
Handling more than 150,000 pieces of luggage a day requires a reliably durable floor coating that can withstand the enormous mechanical stresses caused by vehicles, luggage transport and the countless people. After testing various manufacturers and systems, the investor, planner and applicator decided on the StoFloor Industry KU 601 epoxy resin coating system from StoCretec.
The specialised applicator first of all created a solid base. Several construction-related shrinkage cracks in the concrete floor slab were professionally sealed with the fast-curing EP injection resin StoJet IHS.
The best solution for every challenge
A special requirement for the floor coating was the maximum compressive strength. The floor surface is subject to severe static and dynamic stresses caused by the vehicles and systems that transport luggage. StoFloor Industry KU 601 is highly mechanically resistant. The system can be driven on by standard transport and storage vehicles as well as driverless transport systems with polyamide, Vulkollan or solid rubber tires. The system is also chemically resistant and has low emissions. The surface is slip-resistant and thus ensures safe walking.
The system build-up has limited combustibility and is subject to voluntary external monitoring. Optical markings of storage and transport areas can be implemented using a variety of colours.
