The operator has now refurbished the floor and walls of the sludge dewatering system at the Murg sewage treatment plant (Baden-Württemberg) with durable, chemically resistant system solutions from StoCretec. The old tiled floor was simply reworked.
Sludge is produced during wastewater treatment. Sludge dewatering systems significantly reduce the volume of waste and simplify disposal - as in the sewage treatment plant in Murg in the district of Waldshut. Now the plant was due for refurbishment: 200 square metres of clinker tile flooring. In order to keep the costs manageable, the client opted for system solutions from StoCretec.
The specialist installers first checked the load-bearing capacity of the floor, then cleaned and sanded the tiles - removal was not necessary. The floor was levelled using the "StoFloor Industry EH 200" epoxy hybrid system, consisting of "StoCryl EH 100" as a primer, followed by the "StoCrete EH 200" levelling coat.
The system is not only suitable as a levelling layer on load-bearing tile coverings, it is specially formulated for damp substrates and serves as a moisture barrier under epoxy resin coatings. It is also used as a wear-resistant floor covering in rooms without basements. It is permeable to water vapour and impermeable to liquid water. Due to its rapid hardening, it can be reworked quickly.
StoFloor Industry Elastic WHG Deck 100 was used as the coating system. The system impressed the building owners as it is highly crack-bridging. The water protection coating system is used in LAU and HBV facilities* as well as in laboratories and has a general building authority approval (abZ) for this purpose. It is highly resistant to chemicals and can be driven on with polyamide, Vulkollan or solid rubber tyres.
Between the floor and wall coating, the specialist installers used the concrete substitute "StoPox Mörtel standfest" to form a movable cove. This is mandatory in zones regulated by the Water Resources Act (WHG) and ensures that water cannot collect and penetrate the walls. It also makes cleaning easier.
The walls were also given a coating from StoCretec, the "StoConcrete Protect Resist SP 250" system. It fulfils the required exposure class XWW4. The epoxy resin is highly resistant to chemicals and very stable. It can be rolled, levelled or sprayed airless and can be applied horizontally, vertically and even overhead. The walls were then sealed with two coats of "StoPox WL 100". The EP water-based paint is low in VOC emissions** and water vapour permeable, offers a glossy surface and can be tinted in a variety of shades. In Murg it is a light white colour.
* LAU and HBV areas: Zones for the storage, filling, handling or production, treatment and use of substances hazardous to water
** in accordance with the criteria of the Committee for Health-related Evaluation of Building Products (AgBB)
