Underground car park "S-Finanz-Campus"

The Kassel savings bank has built its new "S-Finanz-Campus" in the centre of the city: Two above-ground building sections, bonded via a continuous basement. In the underground car park (2nd basement), around 100 car parking spaces have been created over an area of around 3,000 square metres. Architects and the building owner paid particular attention to resource-saving processes and responsible product selection. The result is a DGNB Gold-certified overall complex. In the underground car park, "StoFloor Traffic Elastic PM MultiBase" (StoCretec) was used in the OS 10.4 system structure, a surface protection system for traffic areas in car parks with outstanding properties.

Application without odour nuisance

The location in the city centre would have caused a lot of additional work with the originally planned PMMA coating system. "There is a daycare centre, shops and offices nearby - all sensitive areas where unpleasant odours are undesirable," explains Stefan Senz, Product Manager for floor coatings at StoCretec. During the work, it would have been necessary to exchange the air in the entire underground car park at least seven times an hour and to use complex filter systems to clean the exhaust air. "The application of StoFloor Traffic Elastic PM MultiBase does not produce any dangerous gases or odours," adds Senz, "so the complex air exchange and filtration of the exhaust air are not necessary". This saved the client these additional costs.

"The 90 per cent reduction in the use of quartz sand also reduces material and transport costs," reports Senz. This system does not require full quartz sand scattering and a subsequent sealer. The "StoPur AC MultiCoat" wearing course is applied in a single work step. It is a highly abrasion-resistant polyurea-based textured coating with integrated slip-resistance (R11 - V10). Various wear simulation tests prove the excellent resistance to traffic loads (Parking Abrasion Test/PAT, wear simulation according to EN 13197/RPA).

The system components of "StoFloor Traffic Elastic PM MultiBase" are pleasant and easy to apply. The coating for floor and traffic areas is UV and colour-fast, flame-retardant (DIN EN 13501-1) and low-odour - in contrast to PMMA coatings, for example. These are odour-intensive and can form flammable gas-air mixtures during application.

Universal system for traffic areas

"StoFloor Traffic Elastic PM MultiBase" is used in multi-storey and underground car parks as well as on parking areas exposed to weathering. The PUR/UREA system is particularly characterised by short installation times. It can be completed in just three work steps, cures quickly, is suitable for foot traffic after a few hours and can be driven on after just 24 hours. It also has increased dynamic bridging of cracks even at low temperatures (class B 4.2 in accordance with EN 1062-7) and very high wear resistance. The system is also resistant to oils, fuels and de-icing salt.

In Kassel, the walls and supports were also given a coating up to a height of around 50 centimetres to ensure surface protection on the vertical surfaces as well. Parking carpets, walkways and markings were realised with the coloured polyurethane resin "StoPur DV 508" in accordance with the colour concept.

With the S-Finanz-Campus, the Kassel savings bank has realised its new headquarters in the Hessian city - with space for more than 500 employees.
