HafenCity Underground car park, Hamburg, DE

As part of the redesign of a building in Hamburg’s HafenCity (DE), the property manager also commissioned extensive refurbishment of the associated private underground car park. The reinforced concrete structure extends across three levels and comprises around 9,300 square metres of parking and driving areas. Its particular waterfront location amid Hamburg’s urban waterways and branches of the River Elbe places especially high demands on the watertightness of structural elements in contact with the ground. To provide long-term protection for the structural stability of the underground car park and, in turn, the entire building, the planner specified surface protection coatings for these concrete elements as part of the refurbishment concept.

The demanding construction schedule presented another major challenge: just four weeks were available for the entire coating project, from shot-blasting, priming and filling through to waterproofing and application of the wearing course. An almost impossible undertaking. A system solution from StoCretec made it possible to keep to the schedule.

Fast application with spray technology
The project team chose the certified StoFloor Traffic Elastic SC 300 waterproofing system in the surface protection 10.22 build-up. Its unique advantage is that applicators can spray-apply both the StoPur SC 300 waterproofing layer and the StoPur AC MultiCoat wearing course. Both products cure quickly and allow further application or use the following day. StoPur AC MultiCoat also serves as a textured coating with integrated slip resistance. This eliminates the need for sand broadcasting and a sealing coat, saving additional time and making the system even more economical.

The surface protection system also delivers impressive performance. Tests have confirmed the resistance of the StoPur SC 300 UREA hybrid spray-applied waterproofing to so-called “negative water pressure”. Its elastic properties allow it to bridge potential cracks in the floor slab. The coating remains permanently watertight, protecting the load-bearing concrete structure against the ingress of water and harmful substances. It also reduces the risk of further damage caused by chloride-induced reinforcement corrosion.

Various tests demonstrate the high resistance of the StoPur AC MultiCoat wearing course. In the Parking Abrasion Test (PAT), it even achieved the highest wear class (VK1). In addition, the material resists oils and fuels.

With StoFloor Traffic Elastic SC 300, the underground car park in Hamburg’s HafenCity benefits from a high-performance surface protection system that combines long-term protection and high resistance with excellent cost-effectiveness. The efficient, high-quality system solution enabled the project team to refurbish the approximately 9,300-square-metre underground car park within the tight schedule and provide lasting, reliable protection.
