Heritage refurbishment of historic industrial building: Tram depot transformed into elegant showroom
Sopron is one of Hungary’s oldest cities. Steeped in tradition and with a well-preserved old town, this border town is located in the north-west of the country, 210 kilometres west of Budapest, and is regarded as Hungary’s gateway to its western neighbours. ADA-Wintergardens, the building owner, opened a new branch in the city’s former tram depot, known as the Remise building. In line with the building owner’s vision, the historic industrial building was transformed to combine showroom, office, production and assembly functions under one roof.

T1 STUDIO Kft. (Szabolcs Bence Török DLA) was responsible for the design, which aimed, among other things, to bring the building’s original architecture back to life. The original arrangement of the historic facade openings was therefore reconstructed, while the almost 130-year-old cast-iron columns and exposed brickwork were retained and integrated into the overall design concept. The street-facing section of the building houses a prestigious sales area with a showroom covering almost 500 square metres. A defining design feature is the seamless, homogeneous resin flooring, whose classic elegance lends the space a sophisticated ambience. For the public showroom area and sales offices, the building owner and his team of experts opted for StoCretec’s all-rounder, the StoPox BB OS epoxy resin coating.

The glossy, seamless floor gives the showroom and sales areas a high-quality, harmonious aesthetic and emphasises the prestigious character of the space. Thanks to the wide range of colour shades available, the floor could be precisely coordinated with the architectural concept. Multicoloured StoChips add further design accents and subtly enliven the overall floor design. The homogeneous surface creates a calm overall impression, directing attention towards the products and exhibits on display.

Alongside its visual qualities, technical performance naturally also played an important role. The robust StoPox BB OS epoxy resin system is ideally suited to areas with daily public footfall. Its high resistance to the demands of everyday use, ease of maintenance and lasting quality make it a durable flooring solution. The R9 and R10 slip-resistance classes combine comfort with secure footing across the different areas of use. The coating’s radon tightness further enhances its performance profile. With StoPox BB OS, the result is a flooring solution that combines the historic character of the building with the functional requirements of a modern, busy showroom.
