Aachen: Refurbishment of a Car Park in the Historic City Centre
The Town Hall Car Park is located in the immediate vicinity of Aachen Cathedral. Built in 1965 using monolithic reinforced concrete construction, the structure blends into the dense historic city centre and provides 362 parking spaces across nine parking levels. As part of a comprehensive modernisation programme, the multi-storey car park also underwent extensive refurbishment. In addition to upgrading the technical infrastructure, the specialist applicators refurbished the nine parking levels and six stairwells. The project included the repair of reinforced concrete columns, walls and soffits to maintain the functionality of the car park over the long term.

Durable Coating System for Parking Areas and Ramps
StoFloor Traffic Elastic 590 EP was applied on the parking areas and ramps across approximately 13,000 square metres. This high-performance multi-storey car park system provides long-lasting protection for the heavily trafficked traffic areas and the reinforced concrete structure against the demands of daily use. Because of its crack-bridging properties, the coating system accommodates movement within the substrate without cracking. It remains permanently watertight and protects the concrete from penetrating water and harmful substances dissolved in water. In this way, it helps preserve the value of the structure over the long term. The hard-wearing surface withstands the mechanical stresses caused by accelerating, braking and manoeuvring vehicles. The ramps also benefit from this robust and durable coating solution.

Long-Term Protection for the Reinforced Concrete Structure
StoConcrete Protect V was used to protect approximately 18,000 square metres of non-trafficbearing concrete elements. The applicators protected the columns, walls and soffits of the multi-storey car park, as well as the ceilings and walls of the stairwells, with the surface protection system. The coating prevents harmful substances from penetrating the concrete and helps extend the service life of the load-bearing structure. In this way, it supports the long-term preservation of the structure's value.
