Decorative industrial floor coatings for recreational facility Misina TetőPont, Hungary
Built in 1973, the Pécs TV Tower rises 197 metres from the Misina ridge, part of the Mecsek Mountains in southern Hungary. The tower is a popular destination thanks to its observation deck. The adjacent building has now re-opened after extensive modernisation and refurbishment work as "Misina TetőPont," a family and recreational sports facility. Spread across several levels, it offers a tourist information centre, a café, community rooms, and rental and retail opportunities for hiking and cycling equipment.
The architectural firm AU.ROOM received the Big See Architecture Award 2024 for the overall project. At the start of the refurbishing work, the existing floor surfaces had to be prepared and newly levelled. This was no problem using StoCrete VM 640, the cementitious self-levelling mortar.
StoCrete VM 640 is excellently self-levelling and adheres very well to the mineral substrate. This allowed the affected areas to be levelled quickly. For the floor coating in areas of the café, the corridors, changing rooms, and restrooms, the project team decided upon StoFloor Industry BB OS. This extremely robust and durable epoxy resin system found a highly decorative and individual application here.
The pale green (RAL 6021) and grey (RAL 7032) colour scheme, combined with the decorative black and white StoChips (3 mm) aggregate, created an attractive and welcoming surface appearance that blends seamlessly into the recreational area – including slip resistance class R9.
This tough allrounder thus combines high demands for durability and resistance with a premium look in a high-traffic area open to the public. For the stairwell, the StoFloor Industry WL 100 sealing system was used. Here, too, the pale green appearance is present. In addition to the StoChips, 1.5 % Sto Ballotini solid glass beads in 75-150 μm were incorporated to increase the slip resistance classification on the stairs to R11.
The system offers excellent light fastness and it is also suitable for substrates exposed to rising damp. This robust, water-based coating system can be applied on floors, walls, and ceilings.
It is low-emission*, benzyl alcohol- and nonylphenol-free, and it is available in a large number of individual colour shades.
*Low-emission tested in accordance with German AgBB testing criteria (AgBB = German Committee for Health-related Evaluation of Building Products
**RILI-SIB= German Directive for Protection and Maintenance of Concrete Components; DAfStb = German Committee for Structural Concrete
