Permanent Surface Protection for the Hotel Neptun in the Baltic Sea Resort of Warnemünde
The 5-star Hotel Neptun in Rostock-Warnemünde is located on the widest beach in Mecklenburg, Germany. The building, which opened in 1971, is 64 meters high and has around 330 rooms on 19 floors - all with sea views and balconies. The holiday and wellness hotel offers its guests all the advantages associated with its location directly on the German Baltic Sea, but its architecture is particularly exposed to the forces of nature.
For the renovation, the investor’s priority was to maintain the value of the building. In order to sustainably renew the hotel facade and protect it in the long term, he decided on the coating with the StoCretec surface protection StoCryl EF. The elastic acrylate combines functionality and aesthetics, tailored to the specific requirements of the property.
The way the applicators worked on a building like the Hotel Neptun, which is 64 metres high, was particularly spectacular: simply putting up scaffolding was of course not possible and would have disrupted the hotel's operations. So specialists for high-altitude services on facades took on the task of working on the approximately 2,000 square metres of external surface of the facade and balconies.
To begin with, the facade climbers cleaned the exterior surfaces thoroughly and removed algae and other residues. Following this, they applied the StoCryl EF coating in two construction phases.
The elastic acrylate from StoCretec is suitable for concrete components at risk of cracking. It can be applied by brush, roller and airless spray. It is crack-bridging and prevents the penetration of water and harmful substances dissolved in water. The coating regulates the moisture balance, offers very good adhesion to the substrate, good carbon dioxide impermeability, and water vapour diffusion capacity. In this way, the StoCryl EF coating provides long-term protection for the facade and balconies of the Hotel Neptun in Warnemünde.
