Quality assurance through conductive clean room coating
Increased space requirements on the company property of Braunform GmbH led to the strategic decision to relocate the plastics and pharmaceutical production to neighbouring Endingen, DE. Several production areas with a total area of 10,000 square metres were set up, including a clean room in accordance with GMP C and D. Such a room requires special equipment, also with regard to the floor coating. As part of the facility, it must be both clean room compatible and electrically conductive. Water-based coating systems from StoCretec were the optimal solution.
Braunform GmbH, founded in 1977, employs around 350 people. It is considered an innovation leader in the plastics processing industry and stands for full-service engineering in tool making. Companies from the pharmaceutical, personal care, consumer goods, packaging, automotive, electrical and water technology sectors are among the Bahlingen medium-sized company's customers. Constant growth inevitably led to increased space requirements at the headquarters in Bahlingen. The company's plastics and pharmaceutical production division was moved to nearby Endingen in order to give mould production more space in Bahlingen.
Water-based system solutions were ideal
In order to ensure both the processes and the quality of the products manufactured in the new building, Braunform manufactures under clean conditions. A production area had to be equipped with cleanroomtested and electrically conductive equipment. Why conductive? Because electrostatic potentials attract small particles such as dust and can therefore cause contamination of the products. The floor coating is an important factor. It must be low-emission, mechanically resistant and resistant to disinfectants, but also easy to clean. It shall guarantee protection against electrostatic discharges by diverting all electrostatic potential generated by people or transported objects to ground.
For the floor coating of the clean room, the responsible planner decided on a tested water-based system solution from StoCretec. The epoxy-based thick coat system also consists of the conductive layer with StoDivers LS conductive set and StoPox WL 118 conductive coating, the conductive coating StoPox WB 110 and the StoPox WL 113 water-based coating as sealing coat. Due to its properties, the system is ideal for this sensitive production area. The system is characterised by very low outgassing, good abrasion resistance and high resistance to chemicals and disinfectants, as well as its good cleanability due to its smooth, pore-free surface.
